Canalization acoustic phonon polaritons in metal-MoO<sub>3</sub>-metal sandwiched structures for nano-light guiding and manipulation

We theoretically propose and study in-plane anisotropic acoustic phonon polaritons (APhPs) based on a layered structure consisting of monolayer (or few layers) {\alpha}-phase molybdenum trioxide ({\alpha}-MoO3) sandwiched between two metal layers. find that the APhPs in proposed structures are canalization (highly directional) electromagnetic mode propagating along with layers at same time exhibit extreme electromagnetic-field confinement surpassing any other type phonon-polariton modes. When double layer {\alpha}-MoO3 is by Au layers, twisting can adjust interlayer polaritonic coupling thus manipulate propagation highly confined APhPs. Our results illustrate metal-MoO3-metal promising platform for light guiding manipulation ultimate scale.
